What Is Mathematics? is a mathematics book written by Richard Courant and Herbert Robbins, published in England by Oxford University Press. It is an introduction to mathematics, intended both for the mathematics student and for the general public. Second Edition is a sparkling collection of mathematical gems that offers an entertaining and accessible portrait of the mathematical world. Covering everything from natural numbers and the number system to geometrical constructions and projective geometry, from topology and calculus to matters of principle and the Continuum Hypothesis, this fascinating survey allows readers to delve into mathematics as an organic whole rather than an empty drill in problem solving. With chapters largely independent of one another and sections that lead upward from basic to more advanced discussions, readers can easily pick and choose areas of particular interest without impairing their understanding of subsequent parts.

Title: This book is for the one who knows math is awesome but cant understand to the fullest.
Review: In some topics better than India’s NCERT 12th standard textbooks (like limits). The author does not shy away from explaining key ideas unlike many authors who presume/carelessly neglect to explain those key idea theoretically. These key ideas matter because they are the epicenter of understanding. This book and NCERT math books are the best mathematics books I have ever read.

Title: Reading a book, which Albert Einstein has also read.
Review: Has very interesting concepts, and nice explanation. But personally, I got bored pretty quick. It doesn’t have language that pulls you toward reading it.But you can show-off Albert Einstein’s quote. That’s pretty awesome.

Title: print and paper quality
Review: Positive: The book arrived on time.Negative: Print quality of the book I received is very poor. It looks as though the book is a xerox copy of the original. I am sure the original book has much better print and paper quality.

Review: This book is like discussing with an old friend about mathematics. Whenever I come back to this book, I learn something new and I understand math a little better. This book will teach you advanced concepts and theorems. It does not have the wording of an average textbook. It feels like you are having an intellectual debate. Trivia: Albert Einstein read the first edition of this book.
