So, you were not born with a silver spoon? You did not study in a ‘well-known’ school? You could not afford to go to a great college? You were not privileged enough to secure your dream job? Like it or not, but we live in an unequal world; life here does not promise fair treatment to every individual. If you were born lucky and could afford it all, this book can at best intrigue you a bit, but it is not really meant for you. If not, this is exactly the book you need. Welcome to the Scrapper’s club. The only two things you need to be here are a dream to succeed and an urge to face life as it appears before you without whining. This book does not promise you the moon (and neither will it deliver any). For more than three decades, Damodar Padhi has used this time-tested and all weather resistant (read resilient) approach with great success. If you are someone who equates success to only money and power, keep the book back on the shelf and browse on. But if you are looking for success that includes financial freedom, happiness, and purpose, we are ON. The Scrapper’s Way will take you through life’s many crossroads and teach you the art of making sensible personal choices both at work and in personal life, and above all purpose to enrich every aspect of it. One part in every story as a behind-the-scenes memoir, the other part as the fuel to make you think; this book will lay out your own path to success in an unequal world.

Title: The Scrapper`s Way did touch my heart – A Fascinating Read – I literally cried
Review: What a read Damodar Bhaina. How nicely you have penned down your life story. From your humble background to the very top of the leadership ladder. Your dedication and perseverance is coming out very distinctly through your writing. More importantly it depicts how nice a human being you truly are.I cried after reading the book. Literally, and that too in a very long time. Because I could relate my own childhood to yours. The joint family, the sharing of food that was available, the overall negative outlook of the future, yet accepting at the dusk (godhuli), the essence of how life was and yet waking up the very next morning and aiming high to achieve your best.I remember vividly, though its been 25 years ago, you and Raj interviewed me for EACOE. The Six and half years I worked for you, got to know you and your leadership style, I have learnt a lot and definitely it has shaped my life, career and leadership style in a big way. So thank you. This book just reflects everything that is you, a true gentleman, an ambassador of core family values, of elite corporate governance, of successful leadership and doing all these with a lot of humility.Really thank you for everything and thanks for a great read of “The Scrapper’s way”.

Title: A must read for all
Review: It took me a while to complete the book and write this review, but this is definitely one of the best books I read over the years. With countless real life instances and lessons learnt from each such experiences, the book unravels the inspiring journey of Damodar Padhi who has stayed strong amidst adverse circumstances and defied all odds to achieve his dreams. The story in the book is a strong testimonial of how one can use education as a strong weapon to change his life and the world around instead of procrastinating the circumstances and limited resources one is born with. The simple writing style and the clear narratives keeps the reader engaged at all times. I’m sure the book will go a long way in motivating and inspiring people to not give up on their ambitions. The practical lessons in the book will definitely help to overcome all challenges and obstacles while pursing our life goals and above all, the best learning from the book is to stay grounded at all times irrespective of how much success one sees in life. Thank You Damodar Sir for this wonderful read !!!

Title: Absolutely must read book for career and life !
Review: What an amazing read and this is a masterpiece and a must read for all. I was one of the fortunate to work under his leadership during initial stages of EACOE ( TCS – GE joint venture)At that time and till now, little did I know about his upbringing, his struggles and the way Damodar Sir has come up as winner at each stage of the career and life. Wonderful lessons for career and life in general. I am also from a modest background, but my parents always provided for necessities and restricted for any luxuries. Lessons learnt from childhood difficulties, hardships will stay for ever, Damodar Sir has extra-ordinary memory and has remembered so many details and connected the dots extremely well. I could not help remembering purchasing Appu rubber ball for two rupees with contribution varying from 10 to 25 paisa from each of chaddi friends.Already lot of reviewers commented nice things about the book, writing style, simplicity, leadership qualities, humbleness etc, I would like to highlight couple of other points. He is one of the key persons in deciding my career as well. After 3 to 4 years in EACOE, I was stuck at cross-roads of choosing technical career path vs managerial patch. Not knowing what to do, I reached out to him. He took me for a walk outside of JFWTC after lunch and we reached nearby footpath tea stall. Now, I realize that Damodar his own style of connecting with people. He offered me a smoke and I was stunned at first but felt comfortable after that. He cleared my mind and solved the battle I was fighting in my mind for several months. I don’t recall exact conversations, but he mentioned something like “Aravinda, you will do well in life regardless of technicalcareer paths. If your heart says, technical path, just go with it and don’t bother other things”. I had so much doubt in letting go of managerial path, but after that afternoon walk, I decided for my life that I will be techie first and manager next if needed. I have enjoyed/ing my career from that day onwards. It is evident that there is a lot to learn from Damodar Sir, I wish I knew about his life, struggles and lessons during EACOE days and we had chance to interact with him more and pick his brain on people skills :-). At the least, this book should have been written at least a decade ago. Really inspiring book, lot to learn and I am passing it to my son.

Review: Damodar Sir, what a beautiful and inspiring book! It is amazing how you extract learnings out of the smallest of occurrences and apply it in a larger context! I can relate to it as my father had humble beginnings and he used to narrate stories of his struggles and how he overcame them with persistence and efforts. It was great to see how your son’s write-up convinced you to write this book and share your experiences and learnings with the world. Thank you!

Review: I loved this book and highly recommend it to everyone who was not born into a privileged life. Damador Padhi’s story is filled with grit and those personal attributes that one needs to make it in this crazy world, a world that generally offers no help to the disadvantaged. More importantly, Damador Padhi’s journey illustrates how to do this both on a national (in India) and global level. I lived a very similar story in the U.S. Values and guiding principles are universal. Education is universal. Being a good person is universal. I cheer Damodar Padhi for his clear articulation of these universal drivers of happiness and purpose, and of success. One additional thought – this book should also be read by everyone who was born into a privileged life – there is a lot to learn from someone who was not.
