WINNER OF THE HUGO AWARD FOR BEST ALL-TIME SERIES
The Foundation series is Isaac Asimov’s iconic masterpiece. Unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling Galactic Empire, the story of Hari Seldon’s two Foundations is a lasting testament to an extraordinary imagination, one that shaped science fiction as we know it today.
The Galactic Empire has prospered for twelve thousand years. Nobody suspects that the heart of the thriving Empire is rotten, until psychohistorian Hari Seldon uses his new science to foresee its terrible fate.
Exiled to the desolate planet Terminus, Seldon establishes a colony of the greatest minds in the Empire, a Foundation which holds the key to changing the fate of the galaxy.
However, the death throes of the Empire breed hostile new enemies, and the young Foundation’s fate will be threatened first.

Title: The OG science fiction … and has aged well.
Review: âFoundationâ is the first part of a trilogy and comprises five short stories (four of which were published several years before the book) which are interrelated and fit nicely as a single novel. The novel is based approximately 50,000 years in the future when the Galactic Empire presides over twenty-five million planets inhabited by a quintillion human beings. Hari Seldon, a psychohistorian (an imaginary branch of science that predicts future events), foresees the demise of the Empire within five centuries and a period of thirty thousand years to rebuild a second empire, which he hopes to shrink to just a thousand years. The administrators of the empire send him away to a planet called Terminus at the fringes of the galaxy to work on his plans along with a hundred thousand people. He creates the first Foundation there while a second one (which is not discussed much in this book) is set at the other end of the galaxy. The rest of the book covers the next 150 years and is about the efforts of Salvor Hardin – mayor of Terminus, Hober Mallow – a trader, and others to ensure Seldonâs plans are executed, making the Foundation more and more powerful. Quotations from the âEncyclopaedia Galacticaâ fill the reader in, as the story leaps through time.âFoundationâ has many of the typical elements of science fiction. It is set in a futuristic world and has tropes such as hyperspace travel, ultra-wave beams, televisors and others. But other than that, it is also a commentary on human psychology and behaviour â the secondary role that nature plays to technological advancement (the key city of Trantor has 40 billion people but no greenery), the fall of an empire due to rising bureaucracy and reducing curiosity, the use of religion to control humans and the eventual might of economic power over religion. And this commentary provides the book with a soul and makes it interesting reading. It is light on the action elements that we have got used to in science-fiction movies and it will be interesting to see how AppleTV+ interprets the book when they televise it later this year.I had read this book when I was much younger (and remembered very little) and was pleased to see that the book still feels modern despite the seventy years of significant technology advancement and the umpteen dazzling sci-fi movies that I have seen in the past few years. One glaring feature, however, is the absence of women in any pivotal role in this book, possibly a reflection of the times in which it was written (the trailer of the TV show seems to be correcting that though). I look forward to reading the next two books of the original trilogy (more books have been written since then) and watching the AppleTV+ show!Pros: A grand landscape, interesting plot, human psychology at the centre, contemporary feelCons: A complete absence of women in the plot

Title: Excellent read but pathetic book quality and print
Review: I had ordered all seven of the Foundation series novels from Amazon. The items arrived in a staggered manner.Amazon’s service- I give 1 star to Amazon’s methodology of dealing with same series items such as these Foundation series. For customers’ benefit, Amazon should have packaged and sold all books from one vendor. This way we could save shipping cost. Some of the books were eligible for free shipping while others were not. Also, I did not get the feeling of reading from ‘one set’. (1) Foundation, (2) Foundation’s Edge, (3) Second Foundation and (4) Foundation and Earth were from ‘Voyager’ while (5) Prelude to Foundation, (6) Forward the Foundation and (7) Foundation and Empire were from ‘Bantam-Spectra’. The quality of Voyager was below par while Bantam-Spectra were OK.Foundation Series- The series in itself is mind blowing. Independently I give the series 5 stars. You can find that almost all Hollywood science fiction movies have been inspired by ideas originating in these seven books written by Asimov. I could go on and on but any science fiction lover must read the entire series to appreciate that a great depth of thought has gone in producing this masterpiece series. I can’t wait to order the ‘Robot’ series and other standalone novels by Asimov.

Title: Great book, bad conversion to Kindle.
Review: Great book, bad conversion to Kindle with silly and totally avoidable mistakes. Needs thorough proof reading before publishing. Giving 5 stars because Asimov is my favourite Sci Fi Author and I grew up reading all his books and stories. Got this for my iPad as I am now collecting all his books in the digital format.

Title: Great book – bad print
Review: I wish that books printed “To Be sold in Indian Subcontinent” would be of better quality. The story is legendrary – I wish the printing was darker and legible. No complaints against the delivery or the seller. Just that the printing could have been better.

Talvez a sabedoria oculta no conhecimento. Talvez nada realmente, só um delÃrio meu.

Review: great book, much better than the tv series.Itâs a bit light on action and it jumps forward several decades at a time, but it is still one of the great, imaginative works of the last 60 years.

Review: Asimov’s ‘Foundation Series’ is a sprawling epic that spans galaxies and centuries, yet never loses sight of the human element. It’s a grand tapestry of politics, science, and destiny that feels as vast and timeless as the universe itself. It’s like a star map for the human condition – complex, illuminating, and endlessly fascinating.
