A flamboyant party host is murdered in full view of a roomful of bridge players…
Mr Shaitana was famous as a flamboyant party host. Nevertheless, he was a man of whom everybody was a little afraid. So, when he boasted to Poirot that he considered murder an art form, the detective had some reservations about accepting a party invitation to view Shaitana’s private collection.
Indeed, what began as an absorbing evening of bridge was to turn into a more dangerous game altogether…

Title: a pretty good murder mystery book
Review: Mr Shaitana is murdered when four people are playing bridge in the same room. One of them is the murderer but who? Hercule Poirot is there to solve this murder with the help of his little grey cells! This book is not my favorite Christie book. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her other books but still this was a solid book. The ending definitely made reading the book worthwhile as with all of her endings. I didn’t see that plot twists coming! Also there was no Dr Hastings which made the book a little less delightful for me. Even so, I’d obviously recommend this book! It’s Agatha Christie after all. Even her less favorite books are pretty great books! 🙂

Title: The Grey Cells of Poirot comes to play again.. But…
Review: This is yet another classic, mysterious and cozy plot from Agatha Christie. A game of bridge, a murder, murderer in close vicinity, the police and the great Poirot. All set right for AC fans to enjoy the proceedings. At the end, everything gets connected obviously by Poirot and the murderer is traced elegantly. However, the core AC fans would miss that unexpected tremendous twist for which AC is known universally. Having said that, there is no discount on how marvelous Poirot’s brain thinks while he catches the murderer. Apart from a little dissatisfaction of not having a mind blowing twist at the end, nothing makes this book any lesser than Agatha’s other admired works.!Finally, choose a Saturday afternoon and hang on with this one for making an obvious wonderful Sunday.

Title: Yet Another Classic (NO SPOILERS)
Review: As always, Agatha Christie doesnât fail to surprise the readers in this book either.Cards on the Table is a most engaging read where Poirot along with other people involved have absolutely nothing to follow on but the past of the 4 suspects.Best climax ever. HP and his grey cells at his best.Must Read!

Title: Fascinating and a great psychological touch to solving the crime
Review: Yet another fascinating mystery by the Queen of Crime!A fancy art collector, Mr Shaitana invites 8 people to a party; 4 sleuths including our loved Hercule Poirot and 4 people who he knows have gotten away with murders and could be very well able to commit another. After several rounds of Bridge, the host is found murdered using an unusual object and the only possible suspects are the 4 people present in the room.We know from the beginning that itâs one of those 4 people who couldâve managed to kill him but how Poirot and Inspector Battle unfold the case and the suspectsâ past was so gripping! Not to forget the psychological aspect of the case the Bridge game involved was so interesting to read.Like all Christie mysteries, Iâm a fan of the characters she create and their involvement in and out of the case. The only miss for me was the rushed ending which I felt made it a little too confusing.I give this one 3.5/5 and recommend it for mystery lovers who enjoy a psychological play.

Review: As readers of my reviews probably know, Iâm not a big fan of Agatha Christie. I have great respect for her talent; however, Iâm not drawn to Poirot in the way that I love Sherlock Holmes or Peter Wimsey. Though Iâm not much of a supporter of cancel culture and I am adamantly against bowdlerizing old books to make them âacceptableâ to a modern audience, I also donât understand how she escapes the criticism so many other authors have endured with respect to her casual racism, classism, and disdain for the young and more modern people that appear as her characters. That said, this book of 1936 is awesomely clever. A very rich, very foreign gentleman, Mr. Shaitana (âEvery healthy Englishman who saw him longed earnestly and fervently to kick him! Thereâs that damned Dâo, Shaitana!â) invites four people who have gotten away with murder to a dinner party with four people who bring murderers to justice, including Poirot. While the four murderers play bridge and the four investigators are in the next room, Shaitana is quietly killed with a stiletto. Now, it is up to Poirot to discover the murderer.Apart from the low view our author has of Shaitana, this is a wickedly clever set-up. With little to go on, Poirot has to discover the previous murders committed by the four to lead him to the current murderer. We see why the four have gotten away with it and, as the novel draws to a close, Christie does a great job of making us think that each of the guests has been discovered as the culprit before finally giving the game away in the final pages.I have always considered Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None to be among the best of mystery fiction. Recently, I have been reading more of Christie, trying to see what others see in her. For the most part, I have found the novels Iâve read to be good, not great. This one, however, I would have to rank as a great one.

Review: Uno dei gialli più avvincenti della grande Christie, a mio avviso con una bella copertina, che non guasta.Una critica al prezzo, troppo alto per una versione elettronica. Dovrebbe costare la metà , a quel costo non la ricomprerei.

Review: One of my favorite Christies of all time. Even if you have seen the made for tv version. Ariadne Oliver appears in this novel. This is a closed room whodunit which allows Mrs Christie to really investigate all the characters in depth and Poirot can really sink his teeth in his beloved psychology. All the aspects of a mystery novel are intensified by the challenge of a closed room. The alibi’s are brilliantly developed by Poirot. Definitely one to read over and over again.
