‘Oh how I wish the Comfort Food Café was real!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Welcome to The Comfort Food Café!
It’s been a tough year for Maxine Connolly – so tough she’s almost given up on finding her happy ending. But then she discovers The Comfort Food Café, shining like the star on top of the Christmas tree and welcoming her in to its cozy, cake-filled embrace for hot chocolates dripping with whipped cream, melty grilled cheese toasties and the funniest bunch of regulars she soon calls friends.
Then there’s gorgeous local Gabriel Moran, who looks at Max like she’s a present he can’t wait to unwrap – and she can’t help but think that, maybe, he’s just what she wants for Christmas too…

Review: Just what I needed to read at this time of year. A perfectly imperfect romance and friendships that give you on the feels that settle into a happy ending. Her books never disappoint and feel like a warm sweater hug read. Highly recommend!

Review: It was good getting to know Max and Gabe and being reminded of the other characters associated with the Comfort Food Cafe. This story is so immersive even the furry characters grab your attention. This book helped at the end of a challenging day at work and at times I didn’t want to put it down, even when I was not reading I was wondering what was going to happen. A great read Debbie, I love your books and will continue to look out for your books.

Review: Debbie Johnson is one of my favourite authors and the Comfort Food Café series is one of my favourite series ever. The first book in this series, Summer at the Comfort Food Café, was published in 2016, with the other books in the series following behind in quick succession until 2019. I had thought the series was finished, so imagine my delight when I heard there was going to be a new book this year! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and on publication day I dived straight in. I was worried that I wouldn’t remember enough of the other books to properly enjoy this, but I needn‘t have worried. As soon as I started reading the memories flooded back and I loved it every bit as much as the previous books.I got really invested in the characters‘ lives and loved them all, especially the animals. Belle the donkey deserves a special mention for her cheekiness and the badgers sounded adorable. And I also loved getting updates on the lives of previous main characters, especially Laura and her family. Max (short for Maxine), our new leading lady, reminded me of Laura a bit but the story still felt fresh.Reading a Comfort Food Café novel is like a hug in book form. I so wish it were real – if it was I‘d never leave! From something mentioned in the epilogue I have an inkling that there will be a book 8 in this series. Debbie Johnson, if you are reading this, PLEASE don’t let me down and write more Comfort Food Café books!!!This could easily turn out to be my book of the year 2024! I absolutely loved every word of this novel and it couldn’t have been more perfect. I‘ll post an update in early 2025 to say if The Comfort Food Café was indeed my book of the year 2024.For readers that are new to Debbie Johnson I can also really recommend her Starshine Cove series. But basically, just read any book of hers you can get your hands on!

Review: I do so love this series!! This latest book is no different, it is warm and cozy and wonderful! Many of the characters from the earlier books make appearances, and it really feels like seeing old friends again. Max, whose husband has cheated on her and finally left her for a “perfect” woman, ends up at The Comfort Food Cafe when her daughter answers a help wanted ad for her. Gabriel, a loner in a town where everyone knows everything about everyone else, gets roped into allowing Max and her daughter to stay in his farmhouse when the place she was intended to stay is destroyed in a storm. Two people, both damaged by life, slowly find their way to each other and a better life. I can’t stress enough how much I loved and enjoyed this book!!

Review: I just adore these books so much. I can picture the cafe, all the people and every time I read a comfort food cafe book, I get immersed in this magical place and I yearn to pack up my belongings and go and live there myself. If only real life was like this, it would be amazing. I love all the characters in this book, and their journey of self discovery was so heart warming and theres always that element of comedy in what max is thinking or feeling, and her daughters sarcasm that just add to how much I’ve enjoyed reading her story. I can’t wait till the next one already!!
