Title:
Review: Extraordinary mini biographies of important romantic writers; not least the author himself. Holmes’ biographies not only bring the subjects back to life, but also the turbulent times in which they lived. The parallels with today are ever present, but the 19th Century Romantics did not have access to the technology and medical knowledge we have. So much of their tragedy would not happen today, or not in the same way. The bright light Holmes shines on their times brings great insight to the stories.

Review: This book started off well, with comments by the author regarding RLS and his notes from his own walk over the same path. It seemed to collapse after a while into too much meaningless detail about RLS, rather than a discourse by and about the author and countryside changes while following the same trail through provincial France.
