According to studies, the average woman uses 12 personal care products a day containing 168 different chemicals. A recent study has revealed that the skin may absorb up to 60 percent of the chemicals in products it comes in contact with.Of late, the DIY concept of preparing homemade cosmetics which once a daily practice in olden days by most of the women has sprung back in a new-fashioned manner. I still remember how my grandmother used to prepare bath powder which used to have a great fragrance. But, as time passed even she started using the commercial bath soaps we get in the market. Fortunately, until today I have never faced any serious consequences of using the cosmetics and cleaners found in the market but maybe a negligible amount of damage has been done. In this book, ‘ DIY Cosmetics and Cleaners ‘, the author has beautifully explained some recipes for preparing daily usable common cosmetics in our homes with minimum ingredients. Ranging from body wash to shampoo, candles to toilet fizzies, the author has explained the process of making and preparing every product at home. My favorite in the list of products is ‘ Homemade body lotion ‘ and ‘ Homemade cold cream ‘ with a very minimum number of ingredients. As these are homemade with natural ingredients, none of the products will have an ill effect on the skin.
